Patricia MacDonald- "Secret Admirer"

This is the second Patricia MacDonald novel I have read. I can honestly say that she has become one of my favorite authors. Both times I have been racing to get done with the book. Not because it is bad, but because the story is so awesome I wanted to know what happens.

Laura Reed's husband is murdered during a supposed robbery. She is soon suspected and she is trapped in the town labeled as a murdering widower. One day she meets a man named Ian Turner and soon marries him. After that secrets get exposed and all hell breaks loose.

This book was awesome. I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know who did it and as soon as I thought I had it solved, things changed. I had my suspicions as to who it could be, but it kept me guessing. I seriously recommend this book. It was the bee's knees, the cat's pajamas, the elephant's golden tusk. It was a slice of fried gold.

Mitzi Kelly "Classic Revenge"

I always say I have an old soul. I can easily get along with my 87 year old grandmother. I can relate to her. Don't ask me how. It has just always been that way. Anything that has to do with old people, I automatically know I will love it.

That is the case with this book. A trio of old women, one being 80, try and solve a case involving their friend's murder. This whole book was awesome. At one time a can of Raid gets mistaken for hairspray. I literally laughed out loud. There are tons of moments like this.

I have not found a WorldWide Mystery novel from Harlequin that I haven't liked. They are always fun and quirky. I give this 10 out of 10 bingo cards.

Here is my nanny. She is sassy. Moo Moo loves her.

J.T. Ellison "Edge of Black"

By reading the blurb of this book, I knew it was going to be good. By the end I came to a conclusion about Harlequin's blurbs. They always get details about the books wrong. You expect something to happen in the book and it never does! It is very frustrating.

Other than that this was a good book. A pathologist, Dr. Samantha Owens, gets sucked into a terrorist plot that somehow involves her mountaineer significant other. Together they try an figure out who is behind the plot.

I really don't want to give anything away because it really is exciting to read and be swept in the story. The more you know about it the less thrilling it becomes. I am happy with this book because it kept me enthralled the whole time. It defiantly is a rare Harlequin good read.

Joelle Charbonneau- "Skating Around the Law"

At my hometown in Colorado, we had a roller skating rink called skate castle. All the popular kids went there to use their roller blades. No one used the tan skates they had. Only nerds used them. I hated it there. It reeked of cheese and feet. Which smell like the same thing. When I started reading this book, it brought back a lot of middle school memories.

Rebecca Robbins has to travel back home to sell her mother's roller skating rink. While there, a man is murdered in the girls restroom. She can't sell the place until the murder is solved and the police do diddly squat, so she decides to investigate herself. As she does, she gets wrapped up in the towns secrets and puts herself in danger.

I loved this book. It was funny and cute. Not once did I loose interest. It paints a wonderful picture of an small town with old people. I have found that a lot of the WorldWide Mystery novels are really good and don't take a lot of time to read. I definitely recommend this book. I still hate roller skating though.

Karen Harper- "Finding Mercy"

You know there is this new show on NBC called Revolution where the power goes out around the world and people go batshit crazy. The problem with this is one thing, people live without electricity all the time. My example? Amish people.

Thus leads me to this book. Karen Harper has a line of books about a town called Home Valley. These amish are cray cray here. Seriously, they get into all kinds of crazy shit. In this story, a man named Alex goes into hiding while waiting to testify against his old employers. While there,he falls in love with a lavender farmer named Ella. The whole time he is harassed and is forced to go on the run with Ella and her grandmother Ruth.

This book was fast paced and kept my attention all the way up to the end. Then I lost interest. I felt that it was going on forever. There wasn't a lot of suspense because you know who the bad people are the whole time. She makes it so obvious.

What did I learn from this book? Amish people are crazy asses. Don't be fooled by their aprons and suspenders.

Virna DePaul- "Shades of Temptation"

I should have gotten an idea of how the book was when I read the blurb. Anytime the words sparks fly and special agent are used together, it is going to be a doosey. Why is it so hard to find romantic mysteries these days?

In this Harlequin romantic suspense, two special agents, who have the hots for each other try and chase a serial killer. That is it. They have the hots for each other, fight it for maybe a day, then have dirty hot sex, then try and catch the killer. Seriously this is the book.

I found that I just didn't care about the characters. I didn't care if they ended up together or even if they caught the killer. The end is terribly cliche and predictable, to me at least. I know what was going to happen in the end because the author gave away a huge hint early on in the book. At times I found myself with a sliver of hope that it was going to pick up and then it would be clouded up by just me not caring about what was going on.

Is this a horrible book? Probably not, it got great reviews on good reads. I am just not the type to get into books that are 90% what are they feeling and 10% actual story and mystery. It is why I hate Grey's Anatomy.

Laura Caldwell- "False Impressions"

Have you ever ordered something from a menu that looked really tasty, but when you took a bite it was just "eh?" Either it is missing salt or sugar. Sometimes you can't quite put your finger on what's missing, but you know that little spice is just not there. In all instances you are disappointed because you were expecting so much more. This is how I felt while reading False Impressions

This book will make your brain explode!
"Action, Suspense, Sex, all the stuff that readers look for." This is what is on the cover of this book. First of all, I want to know why people just look for these things in a book, anyway? Shouldn't a book be more than that? Shouldn't you be able to take something special away from reading the story? Don't get me started on the sex thing. To me the sex scenes described in books are always so corny. That is beside the point though. Even if one really does look for those things in a novel, they won't find it in this one. I felt like I was constantly waiting for things to get better.

This is part of Laura's series of mysteries involving the character Izzy McNeil. McNeil is a defense lawyer/ P.I. In this story, Izzy puts on her P.I. hat and dives into the world of art. A friend of McNeil's asks her to investigate a string of forgeries found in an art gallery. McNeil then goes undercover as an assistant to the owner to track down the forger and also protect the owner who is being stalked.

The whole time I was reading this book I knew there was something wrong with this book and I couldn't explain it until the very end. Izzy is way too bland. Everyone around her goes on and on about how mysterious she is, but there is nothing in the book that Izzy does or says to back up those statements. She is just there and I could never connect with her. She has quirks, but even those are bland. The whole book was like that. The ending wasn't predictable, but it too was just boring. Just like the food that you order that seems so good, it needs that extra spice to it. This book really does live up to it's name because the exciting reviews on the cover and inside give you false impressions of how the book really is.
